Lions Return Home to Host Alcorn State

Southeastern breaks from SLC schedule to face Braves

Chris Franklin has pulled double duty as Southeastern's third baseman and closer this season.
HAMMOND - After taking two-of-three on the road over the weekend to maintain a tie for first place in the Southland Conference, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (19-10, 10-5 SLC) returns to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for a Tuesday night tilt against the Alcorn State Braves.

The Lions return home on a hot streak after taking two-of-three at Texas-Arlington to knock the Mavericks out of a three-way tie for first.  Southeastern won game won of the series 8-6 before a 1-0 win on Saturday to ensure the series win.

After starting the year 7-6 through their first 13 games, the Lions will look to continue a hot streak that began with a three-game sweep of McNeese State March 13-15.

The Lions have gone 12-4 since March 13, being led by a highly-produtive offense as well as a steadily improving pitching staff.

Southeastern has won each of its last four conference series and four of its last six entering Tuesday's contest with the Braves.

The Southeastern lineup boasts a .306 batting average and is currently fourth in the conference in runs scored.

The Lion pitching staff has continued to make strides as junior right hander Ryan Boudreaux and sophomore right hander Brandon Efferson earned victories over the weekend and continue to head up a strong weekend starting rotation.

Meanwhile, junior right hander Chris Franklin has led a resurgent Lion bullpen.  Franklin picked up his seventh and eighth saves over the weekend to tie the school single-season saves mark, and currently sits in a tie for second in the nation in that category.

The Lions strong stretch of play has generated interest in college baseball circles, as Southeastern earned votes in the NCBWA poll for the second straight week.  Southeastern was listed just ahead of conference rival Texas State among teams receiving votes in the latest edition of the NCBWA poll.

The Lions and Bobcats, who are currently tied for first place in the Southland Conference, will face off in San Marcos, Texas for a three game set beginning on Friday.

But first Southeastern has its sights set on defending its home turf against Alcorn State.  The Lions and Braves are set for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field on Tuesday night.

Live stats and streaming audio play-by-play will be available online at www.LionSports.net, and the game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.
