Lions Look for Sweep of Tulane in Senator's Cup Series Finale

Southeastern looks to snap three-game skid with season sweep of Tulane

Brandon Street will look to help the Lions continue their success against the Green Wave.
HAMMOND - After a pair of come-from-behind wins over the Green Wave on March 12 and 13, the Southestern Louisiana University baseball team (20-13, 10-8 Southland Conference) will look to sweep the 2009 Senator's Cup Series when the Lions visit Tulane (19-16, 3-6 Conference USA) in the series finale on Tuesday night.

The Lions, who already claimed the 2009 Senator's Cup with a 5-3 win in New Orleans on March 17 and an 11-9 victory at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in Hammond on March 18, will try to sweep a season series from Tulane for the first time since 1993 when the two schools meet for the 6:00 p.m. first pitch.

Following Tuesday's matchup with the Green Wave, the Lions will return home to open up a four-game homestand against UL-Lafayette on Wednesday night.

Southeastern, which is also trying to snap a three-game skid after being swept at Texas State over the weekend, will try to build some momentum against Tulane and ULL before returning to conference action on Friday for a three-game set against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

The Lions will be lead by a potent lineup that has been ranked among the best in the Southland Conference all season.  Senior left fielder Brandon Street, who rides a four-game hitting streak into the contest after hitting .400 in four games last week, will look to continue his hot hitting for the Lions.

Meanwhile, freshman shortstop Justin Boudreaux, who has raised his average 37 points in just five games will add support at the bottom of the order.

On the mound, the Lion bullpen will look to return to form after an uncharacteristic outing on Saturday at Texas State.  The Lions were 17-1 in games in which they held a lead after seven innings prior to giving up a one-run lead to the Bobcats in the eighth en route to a 4-3 loss on Saturday.

The Lions have been led by junior right hander Chris Franklin, who entered last week in a tie for second in the nation with eight saves.  Franklin's next save will set a new single-season school record.

First pitch between the Lions and Green Wave is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans.  Live stats and streaming audio play-by-play will be available online at KSLU 90.9 FM and the game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.

NOTES

Southeastern will try to continue its recent run of success against in-state rivals.  The Lions head into Tuesday's contest having gone 7-1 against Louisiana schools in 2009.  Southeastern's lone loss came at the hands of then-No. 3 LSU on March 10.
