Lions Look to Return to Winning Ways During Midweek Swing

Southeastern wraps up season-long road trip at MVSU and South Alabama

Chris Franklin, who hit .389 and recorded three saves last week, will look to help the Lions get back on the winning track.
HAMMOND - After taking two-of-three over the weekend and climbing to the top of the Southland Conference standings, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (14-7, 6-3 SLC) hits the road on Tuesday for the remainder of a five-game road trip, the Lions' longest of the season.

After dropping the finale of a three-game SLC series, and seeing their season-best seven-game winning streak snapped, on Sunday at Central Arkansas; the Lions will try to return to their winning ways when they visit Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday afternoon before heading to South Alabama on Wednesday.

The Lions, who saw their season-best seven-game winning streak snapped on Sunday, will look to rebound on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. first pitch at the Delta Devils home park in Itta Bena, Miss.

The Lions will be looking to return to the form that saw them rattle off seven consecutive wins from March 13-21.  Southeastern has not had trouble hitting the ball this year, sporting a .313 team batting average, but the Lions recent succes has been thanks to, in large part, a resurgent pitching staff.

Southeastern hurlers held opposing batters to a .233 batting average and posted a 3.77 staff ERA (26 ER/62.0 IP) during the Lions' seven-game winning streak and will look to return to their winning ways on Tuesday.

Despite Sunday's 9-5 defeat, Southeastern enters Tuesday's contest against the Delta Devils with momentum on its side.  The Lions boast an 8-2 record in their last ten games heading into Tuesday afternoon and will look to repeat the succes they had against MVSU on March 3 when Southeastern won 8-1 in Hammond.

However, the Lions will not be looking past a tough MVSU squad that defeated Southeastern's Southland Conference colleagues Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State earlier this season.  The Delta Devils also played tough at Mississippi State and LSU earlier in the month, taking leads into the eighth inning on the road at each SEC powerhouse program.

After Tuesday's contest against the Delta Devils in Itta Bena, Miss., Southeastern heads to Mobile for its first meeting with the South Alabama Jaguars (8-13, 1-5 Sun Belt) since 2006.  The Lions will look to fare better than their last outing against the Jaguars, which saw Southeastern defeated 10-7 on April 26, 2006 in Hammond.

First pitch for Tuesday's contest at MVSU is set for 3 p.m.  Wednesday's tilt in Mobile is set for 6 p.m.
