HAMMOND –
For the first time this season, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (13-6, 5-2 Southland Conference) did not have to come from behind to claim a win.  That's not to say that Friday's 5-3 victory over Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas (11-8, 4-3 SLC) was completely uneventful, but junior right hander Ryan Boudreaux allowed just one earned run in a stellar 7.2 inning outing, junior third baseman/reliever Chris Franklin went 2-for-4 with two runs and his fifth save of the season as Southeastern staved off a late UCA rally to extend their winning streak to a season-best six games.

The Lions struck first in the top of the second inning as a three-run frame put Southeastern out in front.  Sophomore catcher JJosh Cryer doubled and came around to score on an RBI single from Franklin and sophomore first baseman Joe Sparacino doubled home two more as the Lions went ahead 3-0 after two.

Central Arkansas rallied for one in the third and one in the fifth, but that was all the Bears could manage against Boudreaux.  The Gonzales, La. native and LSU-Eunice transfer retired the first six batters he faced en route to allowing just six hits and one earned run over 7.2 innings pitched.  Boudreaux walked just one while striking out four to improve his record to 3-1.

After the Bears pulled to within 3-2 with a run in the fifth, the Lions got some insurance.  Southeastern reclaimed a three-run lead with a pair of runs in the seventh.  Franklin notched a one-out single and advanced to second on a throwing error before scoring on a double by freshman designated hitter Cody Gougler.  An RBI single from freshman shortstop Justin Boudreaux plated Gougler as Southeastern went ahead 5-2 after seven.

Ryan Boudreaux gave way to senior right hander Ryan Collins after recording the first two outs in the eighth.  Collins struck out UCA's Jonathan Yerby to end that frame, then came out to try to finish out the ninth.

After striking out the first batter of the ninth, Collins allowed a solo homer to Bear shortstop Bobby Pritchett to make it 5-3.  After striking out UCA catcher Eric Tennyson, and allowing a base hit and a walk, Collins gave way to Franklin.

With the winning run at the plate, Franklin struck out UCA first baseman Josh Huffman to put the game on ice.

The Lions and Bears will return to action on Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch.  Live stats and streaming audio play-by-play will be available online at www.LionSports.net, and the game can be heard on the air in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM.

NOTES

With the win, the Lions extended their season-best win streak to six games.  The last time Southeastern claimed six consecutive wins was Feb. 10-18, 2007.  Since joining NCAA Division I the school record for consecutive games won by a Lion team is ten, set in 1997.

Friday's win was the first time the Lions led throughout.  The Lions had to come-from-behind in each of their first 12 wins of the season.
