Lions Host Sacred Heart in Final Non-Conference Weekend

Southeastern faces Sacred Heart in three-game set

The Lions prepare to host their final pre-conference weekend series starting on Friday
HAMMOND - Fresh off their first win at Louisiana-Lafayette in 22 seasons, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (2-2) returns home for their final pre-conference weekend tune up.  The Lions will look to build on the momentum from Wednesday night's when they square off against the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Friday night.

Friday's contest will mark the season opener for the Pioneers, who are looking to improve on a 12-41 (10-18 Northeastern Conference) showing in 2008.

The Lions will look to continue the offensive success they have had early in the season.  Through the first four games of 2009, the Southeastern offense is averaging 6.0 runs per game and 8.5 runs in each of their two wins.

The Lions offense has been led early on by seniors Ty Summerlin and Brandon Street.  Street enters Friday's contest riding an 11-game hitting streak (dating back to May 17, 2008), while Summerlin looks to continue climbing the school's all-time career hits list after his three-run double on Wednesday tied him with former Lion Kenny Langlois for third all-time with 198.

Junior third baseman/right handed reliever Chris Franklin will look to extend his season-opening four-game hitting streak on Friday night.  The Jefferson State Community College transfer has hit safely in all four Southeastern games and sports a .467 batting average as the team's leading hitter.

Senior right hander Chris Cappo will get the start on Friday night looking to keep Southeastern on the winning track.  After taking the loss in the season opener against defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Eastern Illinois on Feb. 20, Cappo will try to pick up his first win of the season at the expense of the Pioneers.

First pitch for game one of the three-game weekend set at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field is set for 6:00 p.m.  Live stats and streaming audio of the game will be available online at www.LionSports.net and the game will be heard in Hammond on KSLU 90.9 FM.
