Game Notes (Feb. 25, 2009 vs. UL-Lafayette) .pdf format
HAMMOND - After dropping two of three over the weekend to defending Ohio Valley Conference Champion Eastern Illinois, the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (1-2) will look to get back on track with their first midweek game of the 2009 campaign. However, with the first midweek game of the season taking place on the road at perennial NCAA Regional contender Louisiana-Lafayette (1-2-1), head coach Jay Artigues knows his team has its work cut out for it. Still, the Lion skipper says his team is looking forward to Wednesday's 6:30 p.m. first pitch.
"Playing at ULL at their place is always tough," Artigues said. "They're a good team, they're very well-coached and its a tough atmosphere to play in. It's a game where we are going to have to get ready for just like any other game. We need to throw strikes and play defense behind our pitchers and make some good in-game adjustments."
Southeastern will look to return to the form that saw the Lions pick up their first win of the season on Saturday against the Panthers. Sophomore right hander Brandon Efferson went the distance in the win, striking out nine and allowing just two earned runs over 9.0 IP.
The Lions will look to continue the offensive success they had against the Panthers when they visit the Cajuns on Wednesday. Senior left fielder Brandon Street rides a ten-game hitting streak (dating back to May 17, 2008) into the contest, senior shortstop Ty Summerlin stands on the cusp of 200 career hits (currently at 197) and junior third baseman Chris Franklin carries a .500 average into the game.
The Lions split the season series with the Ragin' Cajuns last season. UL-Lafayette claimed the win in a 3-1 pitcher's duel on March 5, 2008, while Southeastern picked up a 14-4 win in Hammond on April 23.
First pitch from M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.ragincajuns.com.
After Wednesday's contest, the Lions will return home to host Northeast Conference power Sacred Heart with a three-game weekend series beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m.
