Lions Face Texas Southern In Inaugural Robert Hughes Classic

First of two games in Metroplex for Southeastern

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team heads to the Lone Star State for a pair of games beginning Saturday against Texas Southern in the first-ever Robert Hughes Classic.

Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net. After facing Texas Southern (3-6) in a neutral-site contest in Fort Worth, Southeastern will venture to Denton to face North Texas on Tuesday.

Southeastern (7-2) improved to 6-0 at home this season after recording a 94-48 victory over Southern University on Wednesday. The 48-point margin of victory was the largest for the Lions in the 31-game series and was tied for the seventh-largest in school history.

The Lions sank a season-high 14 3-pointers in the contest and shot 58 percent from behind the arc. Trent Hutchin scored 18 points to lead five players in double figures for Southeastern. Patrick Sullivan, Brandon Fortenberry and Rodney Jones added 12 points each for the Lions and Gary Dixon had 11. Fortenberry notched his first career double-double adding 10 assists while Sullivan became the ninth player in school history to surpass 600 rebounds.

Sullivan leads Southeastern in scoring (15.7), rebounds (8.2) and blocked shots (23) with Hutchin next in scoring at 12.7. Damon Forest, one of 11 players averaging at least 10 minutes per game, is Southeastern's other player in double figures at 10.1 points per game. Fortenberry (9.6) and Dixon (9.4) are part of a Southeastern offensive attack that averages 80.9 points per game - best in the Southland Conference - while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 42 percent from behind the 3-point line.

TSU, which finished 7-25 last season, has lost its last three games that has included contests at UTSA, Cincinnati and Wichita State. Travele Jones, a 6-foot-8 junior, leads the Tigers in scoring (15.6) and rebounds (5.8). Junior Treasure is next in scoring for TSU at 14.9 points followed by DeAndre Hall at 12.9.
