HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team will welcome Mississippi College to the University Center for an exhibition Wednesday at 6 p.m. as its preseason refinement wraps up.
Live stats for the exhibition between Southeastern and Mississippi College can be accessed on the men's basketball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
Seventh-year head coach David Kiefer's roster features five returners from last season as reigning Southland Conference Freshman of the Year Jeremy Elyzee (10.4 ppg) enters his sophomore campaign. The Lions will heavily rely on their depth for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
SLU brought in 10 newcomers to strengthen its production in the paint and out on the perimeter. Six of the Lions' newcomers came to Hammond with Division I experience to boost their up-tempo style of play, while four others joined as freshmen.
"I want our identity to be gritty, grimy and tough," stated Kiefer. "Our goal is to play fast on offense, and we have a lot of athleticism on this team to be able to accomplish that. Ultimately, we want to be disruptive defensively and make plays in the open court."
Mississippi College will be visiting the University Center for the first since the 2015-16 season, as Southeastern claimed a 76-69 victory over the Choctaws. Mississippi College finished 8-20 overall last season as top three scorer Tremaine Dixon returns for his final season. Dixon averaged 9.5 points per game while shooting 36.6 percent from the three-point line alongside JJ Harris (9.5 ppg) who averaged 5.8 rebounds per game.
The Lions will officially open the 2025-26 season Nov. 3, visiting Ole Miss at 7 p.m. in the Tad Smith Coliseum. The season opener against the Rebels will be televised on the SEC Network+.
