Both Lions Named First Team All-Academic for Work in Classroom & On Court

FRISCO, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team picked up a pair of awards for its work in the classroom as Sam Hines, Jr. was named the Southland Conference's Student-Athlete of the Year with Brody Rowbury joining him on the All-Academic First Team the conference announced on Friday.
 
Hines, Jr., a graduate guard from Marietta, Ga., adds the Southland's Student-Athlete of the Year and First Team-All-Academic honors to his SLC Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference awards. Starting all 32 games for the Lions this season, Hines, Jr. scored at least 10 points in every contest on his way to averaging 16.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and a steal per game. He had five double-doubles, including a 30-point, 10 rebound double-double at New Orleans this season while one of his biggest highlights of the season was hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer in overtime to defeat Nicholls 84-81 at home. Led the SLC in scoring, was third in the conference in minutes played and field goal percentage, fifth in free throw percentage, and eighth in rebounding. Did all that while maintaining a 3.89 GPA as he earned his master's degree in business administration.
 
Rowbury, a junior forward from Meridian, Idaho, started all 31 games he played in during the 2024-25 season. He was third in the Southland in free throw percentage at 77.8 percent while scoring at least 10 points 14 times throughout the season, including a 20-point game at Northwestern State. Grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds in SLU's 81-79 win over Lamar. Had a game-clinching steal and pair of free throws made late in a 70-67 win at ULM. Averaged 8.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, hit 53 percent from the field, and 41.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc throughout the season. Did so while maintaining a 3.44 GPA in business administration in the classroom.
 
The 2024-25 Southeastern team finished the season 18-14 overall and 12-8 in Southland Conference action, the fourth-straight season having a winning record with at least 10 wins in conference.
