HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's basketball team secured the signatures of the final four scholarship student-athletes for the 2025-26 as Ubongabasi "Glory" Etim, Jalen Forrest, Peter Hemschemeier, and Seth Jones all put pen to paper to join the Lions, head coach
David Kiefer has announced.
Etim, Forrest, and Jones are all transfers from Division I programs while Hemschemeier makes his way over to the States with five years of professional experience in Germany among that country's top two basketball leagues.
Etim, a forward from Richmond, Calif., comes to Southeastern for his senior season after two seasons at Central Arkansas which followed a redshirt season and an active season at Bowling Green. In his two years in Conway, Ark., he played in 49 games with 32 starts for the Bears and hit 54.1 percent from the field while grabbing 5.4 rebounds per game and blocked 37 shots at UCA. Played 15 games with six starts at BGSU where he shot better than 60 percent from the field with the Falcons.
"I'm excited about what Glory can bring to our team," said Kiefer. "I love his understanding of who he is as a player, and I believe that he can be one of the best rebounding and defending bigs in our conference."
Forrest, a guard from Decatur, Ga., joins SLU with two seasons of DI basketball under his belt, having played a year each at Presbyterian and, more recently, Chicago State. With the Cougars last season, Forrest started 21 of the 26 games he played in and averaged 13.4 points per game on 40.6 percent shooting while grabbing 4.5 rebounds a game. He had a 37-point outburst against Mercyhurst while scoring at least 20 points three other times on the year and at least 10 points 14 more times.
"Jalen comes in and immediately gives us a high offensive skill set and IQ," Kiefer said. "He has led two Division I basketball teams in scoring and played for one of the top JUCO teams in the country. I think Jalen is a guy who can play multiple positions on offense and develop into a very good defensive player in our system."
Hemschemeier, a guard from Germany, brings five years of international professional experience to the Lions, having played in both of the top two pro leagues in his native country, Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) and the ProA in the 2. Basketball Bundesliga. Last season with Eisbären Bremerhaven, he averaged 9.6 points on 43 percent shooting during the regular season, including 39 percent from three-point range, while giving out 2.8 assists per game. His team qualified for the playoffs where he scored 26 points over the four postseason games he played in. He began his career with Baskets Paderborn, which gave him his first ProA playoff experience in his rookie season, and then played two years with the BBL's BG Gottingen before moving to Bremerhaven.
About Hemschemeier, Kiefer said "Peter has played professional basketball the last few years at a very high level. He comes in with great size and the ability to play multiple positions because of his skill set and IQ. Peter can play on or off of the ball and has shown the ability to score and make others better."
Jones, a guard from Dickinson, Texas, will join the Lions for his fourth year of collegiate basketball, having spent last season at Pacific after playing two seasons of junior college ball, one at Coastal Alabama and the other at Tallahassee. Last season with the Tigers, Jones had a pair of big outings, including a 15-point performance at Missouri and a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double against Life Pacific. During his two seasons on the two-year level, he averaged more than 10 points per game for two highly successful programs and was a top-100 JuCo player coming out of Tallahassee.
"Seth is coming out of a great conference after just one year in limited time," said Kiefer, "but he was a stud JuCo player in the Panhandle Conference. He's a combo guard who's tough and can score the basketball. I really look forward to what he can bring to our team."
Etim, Forrest, Hemschemeier, and Jones are the fifth through eighth signings for Southeastern for the 2025-26 season, joining Garrett Shoemaker, Isaiah Gaines, Ethan Pickett, and Makhi Myles as new additions.
The 2025-26 SLU men's basketball season kicks off in early November.
