SOCCER TO CLOSE NON-CONFERENCE SLATE WITH PAIR OF MATCHES

Southeastern hosts Prairie View on Friday, travels to Alabama State on Sunday

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team will attempt to close out its non-conference schedule on a high note with a pair of victories this weekend.

The Lady Lions (4-1-1) will open this week's play on Friday, hosting Prairie View (1-7-1) at 4:30 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex. On Sunday, Southeastern heads to Montgomery, Ala. for a 1 p.m. contest at Alabama State (0-6).

Southeastern bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 4-0 win over Arkansas State in its last match. Senior Kristin McDonald, freshman Kyle MacIntosh – who won Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, freshman Meaghan Krawczyk and freshman Anna Frye all scored goals in the victory. Reigning SLC Goalkeeper of the Week freshman Lacey Bockhaus recorded a season-high seven saves to post her fourth shutout of the season.

Southeastern has outscored its opponents, 22-5, in the first six matches of the season. The Lady Lions, who rank third in the nation in goals per game, have done it with a balanced attack, as 12 different players have scored goals this season.

McDonald leads the team with five goals, followed by junior Dana Mayer with three goals, along with junior Jenna Oney, junior Candice Wallace, Krawczyk and MacIntosh with two apiece. Oney and sophomore Natalie Santana are tied for the team lead with three assists each.

Wallace and McDonald are climbing the school's career goals scored list. Wallace currently sits in eighth place with 14 career goals, followed by McDonald, who is tied for ninth with former Lady Lion Danielle Shank with 13 career scores.

The Southeastern defense has been just as impressive, leading the SLC with four shutouts. MacIntosh, junior Shalayne Heffner, sophomore Brittany Prieto, sophomore Nicole Brannigan and senior Sarah Cheung have all played big parts in Southeastern's success. Bockhaus has been a rock in goal, heading into this weekend's action with a 0.80 goals against average.

Friday's opponent, Prairie View is led offensively by Angelica Diaz, who has a team-high four goals on the season. Jessica Garcia (2.89 GAA) and Melissa Aguayo (5.78 GAA) have handled the majority of the work in the net for the Lady Panthers.

Southeastern is 2-0 all-time versus Prairie View. In last season's season opener, PVAMU pushed Southeastern to overtime, before Mayer scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of the first overtime to give the Lady Lions a 2-1 victory.

On Sunday, Southeastern will visit an Alabama State team looking for its first victory of the season. The Lady Hornets have been outscored 51-1 thus far this season and have dropped consecutive 12-0 decisions to North Alabama and Jacksonville State. Sunday will be the first meeting between the two schools.

Following this weekend's action, Southeastern will gear up for conference action. The Lady Lions will welcome defending SLC Tournament champion Stephen F. Austin to town for a 4:30 p.m. contest on Friday, Oct. 3 at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
