The Lady Lions (4-1-1), who were unable to convert their opportunities in Friday's loss to Arkansas-Little Rock, were sharp on both ends. Freshmen Anna Frye, Kyle MacIntosh and Meaghan Krawczyk each netted goals for Southeastern, as did senior forward Kristin McDonald, as Southeastern handed Arkansas State (3-4) its fourth straight loss. Southeastern freshman goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus posted her fourth shutout of the season, finishing the match with a season-high seven saves.
“We played much better today and we came away with a good win,” Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle stated. “We did our great job controlling the flow of play today, with our defense and midfield doing some very nice things controlling possession. Offensively, we did a great job of keeping Arkansas State off-balance by staying on the attack.
“Natalie Santana and Jenna Oney were huge for us controlling the central midfield today,” Hornbuckle added. “We were very pleased with the efforts of our backline, especially Shalayne Heffner and Kyle MacIntosh. Lacey Bockhaus continues to be a difference maker with her presence in goal.”
Southeastern jumped on the board first in the 13th minute. Freshman midfielder Brittany Flores found Frye on the right side of the goal and the Collierville, Tenn. native scored her first collegiate goal to stake Southeastern to a 1-0 lead.
MacIntosh doubled the Southeastern advantage 11 minutes later. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Santana led MacIntosh with a long feed and MacIntosh powered a shot past ASU goalkeeper Sara Krimm. MacIntosh's second goal of the season put Southeastern up, 2-0.
The Lady Lions capped the first half scoring in the 30th minute. Krawczyk settled a deflected pass and drilled her second goal of the season to send Southeastern into the break with a 3-0 halftime lead.
McDonald provided the final margin late in the second half. Junior midfielder Jenna Oney played a ball to the St. Catherines, Ont. native, who fired in her team-high fifth goal of the season. McDonald's 13 career goals put her in 10th place in school history.
Southeastern will return home on Friday, hosting Prairie View at 4:30 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
