MOBILE, Ala. -
The Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (3-4) went into Saturday's match at South Alabama (5-2) looking to continue the form that saw them win three of their last four matches entering the finale of the 2008 Lady Jaguar Classic in Mobile.  Unfortunately, 35 Lady Lion errors and a South Alabama offense that hit .235 (40-16-10) combined to undo Southeastern in a hard-fought 3-0 loss (21-25, 22-25, 20-25) on Saturday.

South Alabama jumped out to an early lead in the first, scoring the first three points of the match.  However, the Lady Lions rallied to tie the score at five.  The Jaguars then went on a 8-1 run to claim a 13-6 advantage before Southeastern started rallying back.

Junior right side hitter Jessica Srajer had four of her 10 kills in the first set and junior middle blocker Julie Elliott led the team with .429 first set hitting percentage (3-0-7) as the Lady Lions climbed back to within three at 24-21, but it proved too little, too late as South Alabama claimed a 25-21 win.

Elliott and freshman middle blocker Paige Dollison led the offense in the second set with three kills each and Srajer and junior right side hitter Lauren Mayer each added a pair of kills apiece, but it wasn't enough to overcome another fast start from the Jaguars, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

Southeastern rallied late once again as a 7-1 run brought the Lady Lions within one at 21-20, but a final 4-2 run by South Alabama gave them a 25-22 win and a 2-0 advantage.

Southeastern tried to force a fourth set by coming out strong in the third.  The Lady Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead to begin a back-and-forth third set.  Srajer led the way once again with four kills and a .571 hitting percentage (4-0-7) in a set that saw ten tie scores, but South Alabama pulled away late for the 25-20 win.

The Lady Lions will now return to Hammond for a Tuesday night match against UL-Lafayette.  Gametime is set for 7 p.m. at the University Center.  Admission is free for all fans and live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net
