Lady Lions Begin Crucial Conference Road Swing

Southeastern Visits Lamar After Big Win

HAMMOND - With ten conference matches left on the schedule and facing a stretch of playing eight of their final 12 matches away from home, the Southeastern Louisiana University women's volleyball team (7-9, 2-4 Southland Conference) will look to build on the momentum of a five-set win over Sam Houston State as they prepare to visit SLC West Division co-leader Lamar (7-8, 5-1 SLC) on Saturday.

"Obviously, we're feeling pretty good right now," head coach Julie Langford said.  "Beating Sam Houston on Tuesday really boosted our confidence.  I think our girls proved to themselves that they are capable of beating some good teams."

The Lady Lions, who are currently tied with Nicholls State and McNeese State for the seventh of eight SLC Tournament spots, will face a tough in the form of the Lamar Cardinals as they look for their first trip the the Southland Conference Tournament since 2002.

"Lamar is always tough, especially at their place," Langford said.  "They know what they are doing out there.  They are very methodical and they know their style of play very well.  But, we've had a good week of practice and our girls now know what they're capable of.  The bar has been raised significantly, so I want us to come out and play with authority and rise to the challenge."

Further complicating matters is the fact that Saturday begins a stretch of 12 matches that sees Southeastern at home just four times.  However, Langford feels here squad is up to the task.

"This is going to be a great test for us," Langford said.  "At the beginning of the season, our goal was to get into the conference tournament and we know that's still possible.  But, we'll have to get some wins on the road.  If we can play well at Lamar like we did in stretches at Stephen F. Austin (on Oct. 11) that should help set the tone for how we need to play on the road."

First serve for the Lady Lions and Lady Cardinals is set for 3 p.m. in Beaumont, Texas.  Live stats will be available at www.LionSports.net
