Scotto, a sophomore from Albi, France, is the fifth men’s golfer to be named the university’s top Male Athlete, joining former Lions Martin du Toit (1996-97), Grant White (1997-98), Jacques Chevallier (1999-00) and Andy Smith (2001-02).
After earning honorable mention All-SLC honors as a freshman, Scotto reached another level in his second year on the links. A strong 2008-09 that saw Scotto rank among the team’s lowest scorers with a 73.44 during the regular season led to a tremendous performance at the Southland Conference Championships in April.
Tied atop the leader board after the first 54 holes, Scotto earned individual medalist honors by sinking a birdie putt on the second playoff hole to take the title at the The Club at Comanche Trail in Kerrville, Texas and earn a berth in the NCAA Southwest Regional.
With two wins, four top-10 finishes and eight top-20 finishes in 2008-09, Scotto was selected the Southland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Year. Scotto, who also earned first team All-Louisiana accolades, became the third Lion to be named SLC Golfer of the Year joining previous winners White (1998) and Chevallier (2000).
