Lions Claim 5-1 Victory Over Loyola

SLU improves to 11-8 overall with nonconference victory

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team earned a 5-1 victory over Loyola (N.O.) Monday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
SLU (11-8) won the doubles point and earned four singles victories to drop the visiting Wolfpack, currently No. 10 in the NAIA national rankings, to 7-5 this spring.
 
In doubles play, the Lion duo of Taisia Bolsova and Aitana Darder (10-8) claimed a 6-4 victory over Adele Fereres and Avery Frierson on court 2. On No. 3, Adriana Tirado and Anicka Panchartek (2-2) gave the Lions a 1-0 lead with a 7-5 win over Sofia Amodu and Juliette Finch.
 
After Loyola tied the match with a straight-set win on court 2 in singles play, Tirado (13-5) put Southeastern back on top with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Avrora Volkova on court 6. Paige Duncan (12-4) extended the lead to 3-1 with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Amodu on No. 5.
 
The clinching wins were completed simultaneously. Darder (6-6) outlasted Fereres, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, on court 3. On No. 4, Mariam Tetradze (11-4) swept past Pres Shanthamoorthi, 6-4, 6-4.
 
SLU will travel to face Jackson State at 1 p.m. and Mississippi Valley State at 4 p.m. Thursday in Jackson, Miss.
