NEW ORLEANS – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to New Orleans in Southland Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The match between the Lions (9-7, 2-4 SLC) and the host Privateers (8-6, 2-3 SLC) was decided by the doubles point. SLU won on the bottom three courts in singles play, while UNO countered with singles victories on courts 1-3.
In doubles play, the SLU duo of
Aitana Darder and
Taisia Bolsova (8-7, 3-2 SLC) claimed a 6-2 victory over Ananya Dhankhar and Kate Kalistrova on court 2. However, the Privateers took a 1-0 lead with wins on courts 1 and 3.
Paige Duncan (10-3, 5-1 SLC) won her third straight singles match for the Lions on No. 5, as she handled Nalia Krifa, 6-2, 6-3. On court 4, SLU's
Mariam Tetradze (8-4, 1-4 SLC) got past UNO's Danique Vermue, 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).
Adriana Tirado (11-4, 4-2 SLC) added to her team-high singles total with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Dhankhar on No. 6. UNO countered with straight-set wins on courts 1 and 2.
The match was decided on No. 3, as Nouray Khaled outlasted Darder, 7-5, 6-1, 1-6, to clinch the win for the Privateers.
Southeastern will return to action Monday, traveling to Nicholls for a 6 p.m. Southland match in Thibodeaux.
