THIBODAUX, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team claimed a 6-1 victory over Nicholls Monday night at the Thibodaux Regional Tennis Center.
 
After dropping the doubles point, SLU (10-7, 3-4 SLC) swept through singles play to end a five-match losing skid. Nicholls fell to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in SLC play.
 
"Nicholls played really good doubles to put us in an early hole," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We just challenged each other in singles play and played to our full potential for the first time this spring. I'm really proud of the effort and the intensity we played with in tonight's win."
 
In doubles play, Southeastern won on the No. 2 court, as Aitana Darder and Taisia Bolsova (9-7, 4-2 SLC) earned a 6-2 win over Noemie Piquet and Bianca Losada Morales. However, the Colonels took a 1-0 lead with wins on the other two doubles courts.
 
The Lions came roaring back in singles play. On court 1, SLU's Panatchakorn Suanarsa (6-8, 1-5 SLC) handled Paulina Villegas Robles, 6-4, 6-2. Adriana Tirado (12-4, 5-2 SLC) gave Southeastern the lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Amalie Grube Anderson on court 6. On No. 2, Bente Bierma (4-6, 2-3 SLC) extended the Lion advantage to 3-1 with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Aada Inna.
 
The other three singles matches were settled in three sets. On court 3, Darder (5-5, 4-3 SLC) outlasted Piquet, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Mariam Tetradze (9-4, 2-4 SLC) was too much for Losada Morales in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 triumph on No. 4. Paige Duncan (11-3, 6-1 SLC) completed the singles sweep with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Julia Bordiginon on court 5.
 
Southeastern will return to action Saturday, traveling to face McNeese at 2 p.m. in Lake Charles.
