Lions Suffer First Southland Loss

SLU (9-3, 2-1) returns to action Tuesday at UL Lafayette

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday morning at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

Southeastern fell to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in Southland Conference play. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in league action.

"I loved the attitude and fight we showed today," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We had some opportunities, but give the Islanders credit, they were the better team."

The doubles point was tightly-contested. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi earned a 6-1 win on court 1, but the other two courts were decided in tiebreakers. Playing as a team for the first time, the SLU duo of Adriana Tirado and Anicka Panchartek outlasted Juliette Jalal and Emma Bousquet, 7-6 (6-1) on No. 3. However, the Islanders took the lead with a 7-6 (8-6) victory on court 2.

The Islanders swept through singles play, winning in straight sets on all six singles courts.

SLU will take a break from league play with a 6 p.m. match next Tuesday at UL Lafayette.
