Lady Lions Cap Road Trip, Texas A&M Invitational with 3-0 Win Over UNH

SLU (7-4) hits .316 on the way to second straight victory

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The two-time reigning Southland Conference champion Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team closed out its eight-match road swing with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 victory over New Hampshire on the final day of the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday afternoon at Reed Arena.

SLU (7-4) finished with a .316 hitting percentage on the way to its second straight victory in as many days. New Hampshire fell to 6-7 overall with the loss.

Kyra McKelvey led the Lady Lions with 14 kills, hitting .400 for the match. Abby Bailey added 12 kills for Southeastern, narrowly missing a double-double with eight digs. The SLU setter combo of Ashley Richardson and Peyton Stokley finished with 20 and 19 assists, respectively.

Southeastern limited the Wildcats to a .147 attack percentage. Ainsley Driska paced SLU with four blocks with Alexis Logarbo adding three. Lexi Gonzalez led the Lady Lions with nine digs from her libero position.

UNH's Rachel Grier finished with a team-high 11 kills in the loss, while Jessica Shattles led New Hampshire with 24 assists. Shattles posted a double-double effort, as she and Lucy Chertock each had 10 digs apiece for the Wildcats. Grier paced the team with four blocks.

McKelvey had nine of her kills in a dominant first set that established SLU's dominance. Southeastern scored eight straight points on the way to taking the first set, 25-15, and used a 10-0 run in the second set to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set was the most competitive of the match, but SLU hit .333 in the final stanza to hold off New Hampshire and complete the sweep. A balanced third-set attack led by McKelvey (five kills), Bailey (five), Carissa Young (four) and Driska (four) helped SLU complete its first sweep of the tournament.

SLU will return home Tuesday, closing out the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 6:30 p.m. contest versus Southern. The match will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 The Lion.
