JACKSON, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 7-0 nonconference victory over Mississippi Valley State Tuesday evening at the JSU Tennis Courts.
Southeastern (13-8) swept through singles and doubles play to earn the win. MVSU, which only had five players active, fell to 0-10 overall this spring.
"It was good to finish the regular season on a winning note," Southeastern head tennis coach
Jason Hayes said. "We're looking forward to competing in the Southland Conference Tournament next week."
In doubles play,
Aitana Darder and
Leana Gomez (10-5) earned a 6-0 victory on the No. 1 court over MVSU's Tanaka Garakai and Nina Schiks. On court 2, SLU's
Taisia Bolsova and
Claudia Di Leonardo (4-4) also claimed a 6-0 win over Malefo Kgotlelelo and Tori Carter.
Gomez (11-9) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Garakai on the No. 1 singles court.
Panatchakorn Suanarsa (13-7), Di Leonardo (9-12), Darder (13-5) and Bolsova (10-9) all cruised to 6-0, 6-0 triumphs to complete the shutout.
The Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championships are set for April 22-25 in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
