HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team fell, 7-1, to McNeese in Southland Conference action Sunday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Southeastern (18-5, 7-2 SLC) fell behind early as McNeese (17-5, 8-4 SLC) scored single runs in each of the first two innings.
Cowboy designated hitter Mack Brousseau lined a solo home run down the left-field line with two outs in the first. A leadoff double in the second led to the other run.
McNeese added to more runs in the fifth, taking a 4-0 lead before the Lions generated their lone run in the bottom of the frame.
Conner O'Neal blasted a solo homer to left with one out in the fifth, just one of three hits SLU picked up in the game. It was O'Neal's seventh of the season.
The Cowboys answered with a two-run homer in the sixth, extending their lead to 6-1. A leadoff double in the eighth led to their final run.
McNeese starting pitcher Parker Morgan (1-0) earned the win. He allowed one run in 5.0 innings pitched, scattering three hits and striking out six. He did not walk a batter. Diego Corrales picked up his first save of the season with four hitless, scoreless innings in relief. He walked two and struck out eight.
Blake Lobell (2-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs – four earned – in 6.0 innings pitched. He walked one and struck out six.

Southeastern hosts a pair of non-conference games next week. The Lions face LSU Alexandria at 6 p.m. Tuesday. SLU then hosts Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Kids (age 12 and under) will be able to join their favorite Lion player on the field for the national anthem and the concession will be serving up $2 hot dogs at both games.
Wednesday's game is also the first Teachers in the Bleachers game of the season. All local area teachers will receive a discounted rate on general admission tickets when presenting their school ID card when purchasing tickets at the ballpark.
