Lion Bats Too Much for LSUA

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team pounded out 14 hits, including a pair of home runs, Tuesday on the way to a 15-6 win over LSU Alexandria in non-conference action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Seven different players contributed hits for Southeastern (19-5), with Ryan Brome and Conner O'Neal finishing the game with three hits apiece.

LSUA (14-18) proved resilient early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning and bouncing back with three more runs in the second after a two-run single from TJ Salvaggio put the Lions up, 2-1.

Southeastern scratched across single runs in the third, fourth and fifth to regain the lead, 5-4. O'Neal delivered an RBI single for the first run. Brome drove in the run in the fourth with his third hit of the game, an RBI triple down the right-field line, and Ben Robichaux plated the go-ahead run in the fifth with a bunt single.

The Generals tied the game, 5-5, in the sixth on an RBI groundout before SLU broke the game open in the bottom half of the inning. O'Neal blasted his eighth homer of the season, a grand slam, and Giovanni Licciardi helped manufacture a run after being hit by a pitch.

LSUA scratched across another run in the seventh to pull within three, 9-6, but a two-run homer from Peyton Woods in the bottom of the inning extended the Southeastern lead. It was Woods' first home run of the season.

SLU picked up three more in the eighth on Dane Watts' two-run triple and an RBI double by Salvaggio.

Kaleb Howell (2-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one run in 2.2 innings pitched. He allowed two hits and struck out two. Corbyn Womack was tagged with the loss for the Generals, allowing five runs – all earned – in 0.2 innings pitched.

Robichaux (2-for-4), Salvaggio (2-for-3) and Watts (2-for-4) joined Brome and O'Neal in the multi-hits club for SLU. O'Neal plated a game-high five runs and Salvaggio drove in three. Watts and Woods had a pair of RBIs each.
