HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped Saturday when a comeback attempt fell short against McNeese, 10-9, in Southland Conference action at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
After trading runs in the first inning, Southeastern (18-4, 7-1 SLC) fell behind, 5-1, following a pair of two-run home runs hit by McNeese (16-4, 7-4 SLC) in the third and fourth.
SLU chased the Cowboy starting pitcher Alexis Gravel from the game in the fifth, rallying to take a 6-5 lead.
Mo Little started it off with a one-out triple down the right-field line.
Dane Watts brought Little home with an RBI groundout.
Ryan Brome reached on a check-swing, infield single and later came around to score on an RBI double by
TJ Salvaggio. Following back-to-back walks by
Logan Walters and
Conner O'Neal,
Parker Coley dropped a two-run double into left-center. O'Neal would score on an RBI infield single by
Jude Hall.
McNeese bounced back with a pair of runs in the sixth to regain the lead.
Both teams picked up a single run in the seventh and then a pair of runs each in the eighth. The Lions left seven runners on base in the final four innings, including the potential tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position in the ninth.
Cowboy reliever Sergio Lopez (4-1) earned the win, surrendering three runs – all earned – in two innings pitched. Paul Coppinger retired the only batter he faced to close out the game, earning his first save of the season.
Aiden Vosburg (1-1) suffered the loss for Southeastern in relief, allowing three runs – all earned – in 1.1 innings of work.
Giovanni Licciardi (4-for-5), Brome (3-for-5), Hall (2-for-4) and Salvaggio (2-for-4) each produced multiple hits for the Lions, who combined for 15 in the game.

Blake Lobell (2-0, 3.29), a junior right-hander from Holden, Louisiana, earns the start on the mound for Southeastern. McNeese will counter with junior left-hander Parker Morgan (0-0, 3.38).
