Lions Drop Southland Match at Islanders

SLU looks to close out trip with a win Tuesday at Prairie View

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team lost a 7-0 decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Southland Conference play Sunday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

Southeastern (7-3, 0-2 Southland) dropped two doubles matches and was swept in singles play. The Islanders improved to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in SLC play.

"This was a tough way to open conference play with two quality teams on the road," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We fought hard and learned a lot. This week of preparation will be vital as we prepare for UIW and Lamar coming to town."

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opened the match by taking the doubles point. A pair of 6-3 victories on courts 1 and 3 gave the Islanders a 7-0 lead.

AMCC swept through all six singles matches with five wins coming in straight sets. On court 5, SLU's Aitana Darder took the first set, but could not hold off the rally of Josefa Fuenzalida in a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss.

SLU is scheduled to close out its three-match road swing through Texas with a 10 a.m. match at Prairie View Tuesday.
