Southeastern Falls 4-1 to Miami

Kelsey Fuller records her second straight goal as the Lady Lions move forward to take on FIU Saturday morning

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team suffered a tough 4-1 loss on the road against Miami Thursday evening at Cobb Stadium.

Southeastern (1-2-1) fell behind early, but gained some momentum later in the first half before Miami's (3-2-1) second half surge. Lady Lion goalkeeper Kendall Curran finished with five saves after relieving starter Anna Blankenship with one save in the second half.

Senior Kelsey Fuller found the net for the second consecutive match to help SLU avoid the shutout. Fuller connected on goal in the 23rd minute of the match.

Miami worked quickly taking the early advantage in the first five opening minutes of the contest. Kyla Gallagher scored off a feed from Tori Grambo and Julia Edwards to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead.

Seniors Mia Martin and Halli Roe showcased their playmaking ability to set up Fuller to equalize the match midway into the first half. Fuller leads the team in scoring so far this season.

The Hurricanes doubled its lead minutes after returning from halftime to put Miami up 2-1. Ciara Alcaron broke free to extend the lead in the 61st minute to secure her first goal of the season. Gallagher sent a shot past a diving Curran to give the Hurricanes a 4-1 cushion. Gallagher scored her second goal of the match late in the second half to seal the win. Miami ended the match with 25 shots and 10 shots on goal led by forward Giovana Canali. Hurricane goalkeepers Gray Wilson and Claireese Foley split time in the net to record one save to aid in securing their three-game win streak.

SLU would get no closer as Miami continued to control the rest of the contest with 17 shots taken in the second half alone. Southeastern finished with two shots and two assists to cap the night.
