JACKSON, Miss. - The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team take care of business on the road to secure its first win of the 2024 season against Jackson State Saturday afternoon.
Southeastern (1-1-1) controlled the action, leading 14-4 in shots over Jackson State (0-2-1) to earn the win. Three Lady Lions found the net to claim the 3-1 victory.
The Lady Lions jumped out to an early lead as
Kelsey Fuller broke free in the 14
th minute of the match. The senior finished with two shots and one shot on goal to record her first goal of the season.
Jackson State executed a counter attack later in the half to tie the contest before the break. Forward Kalia Tablado striked past SLU goalkeeper
Anna Blankenship to put the Tigers on the board with an assist from Kendyl Terrell.
Senior
Rylee Franklin contributed a spark for Southeastern in the 47
th minute of the match after returning from halftime to gain a 2-1 lead. Franklin scored her first goal of the season to take advantage of the Lady Lions' second half momentum.
Southeastern's defense detained Jackson State's opportunities in the second half to hold the Tigers scoreless for the duration of the match. Defenders

Haylli Roe played all 90 minutes for the Lady Lions to protect their backline. Jackson State maintained a 3-6 advantage in corner kicks but SLU goalkeepers
Kendall Curran and Blakenship denied two of Jackson State's shots on goal to secure the win.
SLU remained aggressive throughout the rest of the match to reap the reward in the 66
th minute. Midfielder
Katie Brown scored to extend Southeastern's lead to close out the contest. Brown led both teams with three shots and one shot on goal.
Southeastern finished with 14 shots and four shots on goal, but could not add to its tally. Jackson State goalkeeper Rebecca Jamieson handled the majority of the responsibility in the net to finish with one save. A total of 21 Lady Lions saw action in the 3-1 victory over the Tigers.
SLU will return to action Thursday, Sept. 5 to face the Miami Hurricanes for a 5 p.m. match on the ACC Network.
