Lions Extend Winning Streak to Six

Story Links

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team extended its winning streak to six consecutive games Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field, defeating LSU Alexandria, 17-5, in seven innings.

Southeastern (15-6) got the scoring jumpstarted in the second inning with a three-run home run off the bat of Christian Garcia. The blast was the first of the year for the graduate student from Slidell, Louisiana.

A leadoff triple in the third led to a run for LSUA (10-14), but the Lions scratched across a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Generals scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, but both times SLU responded with six in the bottom half of the frames.

An RBI double by Shea Thomas, an RBI single by TJ Salvaggio and a grand slam off the bat of Peyton Woods generated the six-run outburst in the fourth. The grand slam was the second home run of the season for the freshman out of Albany, Louisiana and the first in his career with the bases loaded.

Connor O'Neal drove in a pair in the fifth with a double, Garcia drove in three more runs with a triple off the wall in right-center field and Justin Williams drove in Garcia with a single to left.

Hayden Robb (2-0), the first of four Lion pitchers in the game, earned the win. He allowed one run in his three-inning stint, scattering two hits and a walk while striking out five batters. Colin Lacombe (1-3), the second of seven pitchers used by the Generals, suffered the loss. He allowed three runs – all earned – in one inning of relief work.

Garcia (2-for-4), O'Neal (2-for3), Salvaggio (2-for-2), Thomas (2-for-2) and Williams (2-for-5) turned in multi-hit performances at the plate for Southeastern. Garcia drove in a game-high six runs, becoming the first SLU player to accomplish the feat since Bailyn Sorensen drove in six against Xavier of Louisiana back on February 27.
