HAMMOND, La. - The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team controlled the match with a 1-0 victory over JSU in home opener Sunday evening at Strawberry Stadium.
Southeastern (2-5) dominated the match, surpassing Jackson State (1-5), 23-10, in shots throughout the contest. Hannah Moffatt found the net in the SLU victory.
The Lady Lion defense held Jackson State scoreless, as Southeastern gained its first home win of the season. SLU goalkeeper
Olivia Griffin denied five of the Tigers' shots on goal to solidify the shutout.
The Lady Lions set the tone at the beginning of the match and clinched the lead in the 27
th minute. Moffatt flew one into the net from an assist from
Mya Guillory that soared past JSU goalkeeper Jordan Hamilton for a 1-0 Southeastern advantage.
Southeastern remained aggressive in the second half, but could not add more the lead. Moffatt, Guillory and Massingill led SLU with two shots on goal. A total of 18 Lady Lions saw action in the home-opening victory.
SLU will return to play Sunday, traveling to Northwestern State (2-5) for a 4 p.m. match on ESPN+ to open Southland Conference play.
