NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Northwestern State Sunday evening at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
Southeastern (2-6, 0-1-0) contained Northwestern State (3-5,1-0-0) for the first 45 minutes of the match, but fell into a 1-0 deficit early in the second half. Lady Lion goalkeeper
Olivia Griffin was shaken up in a collision in the first half, but continued on to manage all the work in goal.
SLU finished with a 10-9 advantage in shots taken led by
Nicole O'Neill and tied Northwestern State with three shots on target.
Northwestern State wasted no time to claim the lead within seven minutes of the second half. Sabrina Lopez kicked one in the net for NSU to score her second goal of the season. Lady Demon goalkeeper Libe Banuelos played all 90 minutes with 3 total saves.
The Lady Lions remained aggressive throughout the match with narrow misses from
Rylee Franklin,
Hannah McCord and
Nicole O'Neill, but would get no closer to tie the contest.
Southeastern will return to action Sunday, Sept. 24 at Strawberry Stadium for a 1 p.m. contest televised on ESPN+.
