HAMMOND, La. – Putri Insani and
Gabrielle Dekkers each won in both singles and doubles play to help the Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team earn a 5-2 victory over Bryant Thursday evening at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
Southeastern (5-5) won the doubles point and took four of six singles matches to even its record with the win over Southland Conference affiliate member Bryant. The match was moved up a day due to expected rain in the Hammond area Friday.
"Bryant is a strong team and a welcome addition to our conference," Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes said. "We appreciate them adjusting their schedule to help us beat the weather."
In doubles play, Insani and
Flory Bierma won their sixth straight doubles match, defeating Manuela Estrada and Camilla Beza, 6-1, on the No. 1 court. On No. 2, Dekkers and
Carla Del Barrio clinched the point for SLU with a 6-1 victory over Olivia Rondini and Caitlyn Munson.
"We played fantastic in doubles and that set the tone for the match," Hayes commented. "We fought hard, played with a lot of heart today and that made all the difference."
Insani improved to 7-1 in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win on the top court over Sarah Hickey on the top court. On court 2, Dekkers (5-2) won her fourth straight singles match, 7-5, 6-2, over Natalia Vela.
Kate Oborina (4-4) evened her singles mark with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win over Rondini on No. 4.
Alba Perez (5-3) took down Lisa Marie Dugec, 6-3, 7-5, on court 5 to close out the team's scoring.
Southeastern will close out its four-match home stand with an 11 a.m. match Saturday versus SLC affiliate member NJIT at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
