Southeastern Ties with Northwestern State in Physical Match Up at Strawberry Stadium

The Southeastern Louisiana University women’s soccer team battle to a 0-0 tie after a physical Southland Conference match at home Sunday afternoon at Strawberry Stadium.

HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's soccer team battle to a 0-0 tie after a physical Southland Conference match at home Sunday afternoon at Strawberry Stadium.
 
Southeastern is now 4-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play after tying with the defending Southland champion Lady Demons (4-2-2, 1-1-1 SLC) in a scoreless yet aggressive match between the conference opponents. The two teams combined for six yellow cards.
 
Even though NSU had nine shots, Southeastern kept them to only four shots on goal, while all three shots were shots on goal for the Lady Lions.
 
NSU threatened early with a shot by Nicole Henry in the third minute of the match, followed by another shot made by Gracie Armstrong which was high above the goal and out of reach of Southeastern's Olivia Griffin. The first yellow card of the match was called on Maycie Massingill in the 22nd minute of the match.
 
After some more play, Victoria Brackmann took a shot on goal but it was saved by NSU's Chloe DeShazer. Another yellow card was called in the in the 29th minute of the match on NSU's Emme' Fernandez which resulted in a free kick for Southeastern. The rest of the match was shot after shot for both teams but neither of them could find the net.
 
Griffin had four saves, while DeShazer had three. There was a total of 10 corner kicks, NSU taking the majority with nine and Southeastern having one. Both teams had multiple fouls with Southeastern having six and NSU having five. NSU's Natalee Henry attempted one last shot in the 84th minute of the match but was unable to complete it, ending the match 0-0.
 
Southeastern's next opponent is HBU (1-3-2, 0-0 SLC) who it will play Friday at 7 p.m. in Houston. HBU is on a three-match losing streak after dropping matches to Texas A&M Commerce, Houston, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. This match can be seen on ESPN+.
