SLU No-Hits Southern in 13-0 Nonconference Victory

Comeaux, Marshall, Romano, Ladner, Zumo combine for 10th no-hitter in program history; Mass, Rayner, Watson all homer for SLU (30-12)

BATON ROUGE, La. – Five Southeastern Louisiana University pitchers combined for a no-hitter and the Lady Lions scored in every inning on the way to a 13-0 nonconference softball victory at Southern Tuesday afternoon at Lady Jaguars Field.

Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux (9-3), Leah Marshall, Alyssa Romano, KK Ladner and Heather Zumo combined for the 10th no-hitter in program history, as SLU (30-12) closed out nonconference play with a convincing victory. Southern fell to 10-28 with the loss.

Aeriyl Mass, Madison Rayner and Maddie Watson each homered to lead a 12-hit Southeastern attack. The Lady Lions scored multiple runs in every inning off Southern starter Annelise Corona (1-7).

Mass walked and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first, while Cam Goodman also came home on a double play to give SLU a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Mass lined a home run over the right field fence to extend the lead to 4-0. Rayner led off the third with a solo shot over the left field fence before Madisen Blackford stole home to push the Lady Lion advantage to 6-0.

Mass tripled home a run in the top of the fourth, while Sadie Hewitt and Blaire Bizette each added RBI to extend the lead to 9-0. Watson powered a grand slam over the left field fence to provide the final 13-0 margin.

Southern drew a walk in the second and two free passes in the fourth, but could not record a hit, as Southeastern threw a different pitcher each inning. Of the 10 no-hitters in program history, Zumo, who closed out the game with a perfect fifth, has played a part in four.

Southeastern will return home to host HBU for a three-game series at North Oak Park. The series opens with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday and concludes Saturday at noon. All three games will be televised on ESPN+.
