SLU Opens Fall with 22-5 Exhibition Victory over PRCC

Southeastern finishes with 27 hits in fall debut under first-year coach Partridge

HAMMOND, La. – The reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team opened its fall schedule with a 22-5 victory over Pearl River Community College in a 10-inning exhibition Thursday at North Oak Park.
 
The Lions finished with 27 hits in the win, as eight different SLU players finished with multiple hits. Chloe Magee and Cayden Tullier each finished with four hits for Southeastern, while Kai Goodman and Blair Walsh each had three hits. Shelby Morris, Keaunna Green, Katherine Thiessen and Teegan DeWitt each added two hits apiece for the Lions.
 
Magee led SLU with five RBI, while Brilee Ford, Morris, Walsh and Goodman drove in two runs apiece. Magee also scored a game-high four runs, followed by Morgan Chisolm, Morris, Ford, Goodman, Thiessen and DeWitt with two runs apiece. Green, Morris, Tullier, Katie Lott and Veronica Puckett each stole bases.
 
Southeastern finished with 10 extra-base hits, as DeWitt hit a home run in her Lion debut. Lott, Green, Goodman and Magee all tripled, while Mykail Lusco, Morris, Ford, Thiessen and Tullier each doubled.
 
Six different SLU pitchers combined to hold the visiting Wildcats to five hits over 10 innings. Thiessen, DeWitt, Celia Lamkin and Bre Clark each tossed two innings, while Kayla Crawford and Ashtyn Rogers each logged an inning. Thiessen, DeWitt and Clark shared team-high honors with three strikeouts apiece.
 
Southeastern's second of seven fall exhibitions is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 7, as Jones College visits for a 5 p.m. 10-inning exhibition at North Oak Park.
