CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team closed out the Chatty's Patty's Tournament with a 4-3 loss to Chattanooga Sunday afternoon at Frost Stadium.
SLU (18-9) had its four-game winning streak snapped. Chattanooga (16-13) bounced back after falling to the Lady Lions, 11-5, Saturday.
Cam Goodman led Southeastern at the plate with a pair of hits Sunday, while
Madison Rayner hit her second home run of the season.
The Mocs took a 2-0 lead off SLU starter
Heather Zumo (10-3) in the bottom of the first inning. A two-run home run by Olivia Lipari staked UTC to an early advantage.
Chattanooga added to its lead in the bottom of the third inning, chasing reliever
Mary-Cathryn (MC) Comeaux after she gave up a one-out bases loaded walk to Kaili Phillips to extend the UTC lead to 3-0.
KK Ladner came in and retired the next two batters to keep Southeastern within striking distance.
After stranding four base runners in the opening four innings, SLU finally got on the board versus UTC starter Izzy Alley (4-7). Wild pitches scored
Audrey Greely and Goodman, as Southeastern cut the lead to 3-2.
Chattanooga took advantage of a passed ball to plate an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Rayner pulled Southeastern within one with a homer over the right field fence. Hannah Wood retired
Lexi Johnson to keep SLU from getting any closer and secured her first save of the season.
Southeastern will close out its road swing Wednesday with a 6 p.m. nonconference contest at ULM.
