SLU Drops Preconference Road Finale at ULM

Southeastern (18-10) returns home Tuesday to host Alcorn State in a 4 p.m. doubleheader

MONROE, La. – ULM handed the Southeastern Louisiana University softball team a 4-0 loss in nonconference action Wednesday night at the ULM Softball Complex.

SLU fell to 18-10 overall with the defeat, while the host Warhawks improved to 17-8 on the season.

Aeriyl Mass and Madisen Blackford were the lone players to collect hits for the Lady Lions, though Southeastern had no shortage of scoring opportunities against ULM starter Kinsey Kackley (5-2). SLU put runners on in every inning, but ultimately left 10 on base versus the Warhawks.

Alyssa Romano (0-2) took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs in 2.1 innings of work. KK Ladner threw two innings of shutout relief for the Lady Lions.

After Romano pitched out of a two-on, no-out jam in the first, ULM took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Andie Edwards led off the frame with a home run just inside the left field foul pole to give the Warhawks a 1-0 cushion.

The Warhawks put runners on second and third with one out in the third to end Romano's outing. Mary-Cathyrn (MC) Comeaux came in and induced a comebacker to the circle, but her throw home was too late. One batter later, an infield single by Jacelyn Buck plated two more runs to give ULM a 4-0 advantage.

Southeastern threatened throughout the game with its best scoring chance coming in the sixth. Sarah Diaz was hit by a pitch and two ULM errors loaded the bases with two outs. However, Kackley rebounded by retiring Greely to keep SLU off the board.

The Lady Lions mounted one last threat in the top of the seventh. Mass was hit by a pitch and Lexi Johnson walked to put a pair of runners on with two away, but Kackley forced Blaire Bizette to fly out to right field to close out the game.

Southeastern will take the weekend off before returning home to host Alcorn State for a 4 p.m. doubleheader next Tuesday at North Oak Park.
