Big Inning Propels SLU to Season Sweep of ULM

Lady Lions (25-16) open 10-game home stand with 7-1 victory

HAMMOND, La. – A seven-run fifth inning propelled Southeastern Louisiana to a 7-1 victory over ULM in nonconference softball action Wednesday evening at North Oak Park.

Southeastern (25-16) completed the season sweep of the visiting Warhawks (13-24). The Lady Lions won the first meeting, 2-1, back on March 24 in Monroe.

Cameron Goodman was 3-for-3 to lead a 10-hit SLU attack. Cameron Beal drove in a pair of runs for SLU, while Anna Rodenberg and Audrey Greely each were also credited with an RBI. Heather Zumo (15-3) and MC Comeaux combined to hold the Warhawks to six hits in the victory.

ULM starter Adrianna Chavarria (1-8) and Zumo matched zeroes until the Warhawks broke through in the top of the fourth inning. Korie Kreps led off the frame with a double and scored one out later on an RBI single by Jessica Williams to give ULM a 1-0 advantage.

SLU mounted a threat in the bottom of the fourth inning. Chavarria hit Blackford and Kelci Bodin beat out a bunt single to put a pair of runners on with no outs. However, Chavarria retired Madison Watson, Rodenberg and Karlee Kraft to keep SLU off the board.

The Lady Lions finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. Greely walked, then Goodman and Lindsey Rizzo each singled to load the bases. Three straight ULM errors cleared the bases, then Rodenberg followed with an RBI infield single. A two-run single by Beal and an RBI double by Greely capped the scoring, as SLU sent 13 batters to the plate on the way to a 7-1 lead.

Comeaux stranded a pair of Warhawks in the top of the sixth inning, then worked around a one-out single in the seventh inning to close out the victory.
