BEAUMONT, Texas – Kailin Newsome turned in her fourth consecutive double-double as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Lamar in Southland Conference action, 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-9, Tuesday at the Montagne Center.
 
Newsome recorded 22 kills, 11 digs and a pair of service aces and Ariana Hebert dished out a career-high 33 assists as the Lady Lions (6-3, 4-2 Southland) extended their winning streak to three straight.
 
Southeastern won the opening set after hitting a blistering .462 as a team. Karlee Wilkerson led the way with five kills. Tempestt Vaughn (3 kills, 2 total blocks) and Crispin Adams (2 kills, 2 total blocks) were forces on both offense and defense.
 
Lamar (1-11, 1-6 Southland) countered in the second set despite the Lady Lions serving up four aces, but Southeastern took the third set behind the hitting of Kailin Newsome (6 kills) and Addison Vidrine (4 kills).
 
Both teams struggled offensively in the fourth set with the Cardinals taking advantage of three aces by Kaitlyn Gil to even up the match.
 
The Lady Lion offense returned to form in the final set, posting just one attack error on the way to sealing the victory over Lamar.
 
Karlee Wilkerson posted 10 kills for Southeastern, Addison Vidrine added nine more while Sam Gomez contributed seven kills and a team-high four total blocks. Calli Collins handed out 20 assists and chipped in nine digs while libero Ansley Tullis led the Lady Lions with a match-high 20 digs.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Lions return home for matches Thursday at 7 p.m. against Abilene Christian (5-3, 4-2 Southland) and Saturday at 10 a.m. against Stephen F. Austin (18-4, 6-0 Southland) in the University Center.
 
Thursday's match is Senior Night. The Lady Lions will honor four players before the match – Marisa Calvaruso, Gomez, Ryan Maddera and Vaughn. There will also be free pizza for the first 150 Southeastern students (while supplies last).

Proper social distancing techniques are required at all athletic events. Fans are asked to maintain a minimum distance of six feet from others, wear a face covering over both their nose and mouth, and wash their hands frequently. Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout Southeastern's athletic facilities.
 
While tailgating is currently prohibited, current health and safety guidelines set forth by state and local officials due to the COVID-19 pandemic allow for 25 percent capacity at athletic events. Capacity will be adjusted as state guidelines allow.
