HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana dominated Abilene Christian in the fourth set Thursday, extending its winning streak to four straight with a Southland Conference victory, 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 25-9, at the University Center.
The Lady Lions (7-3, 5-2 Southland) were led once again by outside hitter
Kailin Newsome. The freshman from Houston, Texas recorded her fifth consecutive double-double, and sixth overall, compiling 23 kills and 11 digs while also hitting .320 for the match.
Southeastern rallied from a five-point deficit in the opening set and trailed by as much as four in the second set. ACU (5-4, 4-3 Southland) built another five-point advantage in the third set, holding off a late charge by the Lady Lions. Southeastern bounced back in the fourth set, hitting .652 on the way to an error-free attack in the finale.
Senior
Ryan Maddera contributed 10 kills and
Karlee Wilkerson, a sophomore from Springfield, Louisiana, chipped in seven.
Ariana Hebert dished out 32 assists, one shy of the career-high she set Tuesday at Lamar, and
Calli Collins handed out another 16 for the Lady Lions.
Sophomore defensive specialist
Lizzy Low served up a career-high five aces as Southeastern combined for a season-best 11, its most since firing off 12 service aces against New Orleans on October 14, 2017. Hebert and
Crispin Adams both contributed a pair to tonight's ace total.
Sam Gomez, a senior from Mandeville, Louisiana, had a hand in six of Southeastern's nine total blocks. Newsome and Wilkerson both contributed to three.

Ansley Tullis each tallied 11 digs, tying Newsome for the team-high.

While tailgating is currently prohibited, current health and safety guidelines set forth by state and local officials due to the COVID-19 pandemic allow for 25 percent capacity at athletic events. Capacity will be adjusted as state guidelines allow.
