HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana handed Southland Conference-leading Stephen F. Austin its first conference loss of the season Saturday, 25-23, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23, extending its winning streak to five straight. 
 
The historic Lady Lion (8-3, 6-2 Southland) win snapped SFA's 42-match winning streak in Southland play, handing the Ladyjacks (19-5, 7-1 Southland) their first regular-season conference loss since Oct. 31, 2017. The victory also propelled Southeastern into a tie for second place in the standings with its upcoming opponent, Houston Baptist.
 
Kailin Newsome continued to show why she is one of the most dangerous offensive players in the Southland, recording her sixth consecutive double-double and seventh overall this season. The freshman from Houston, Texas led all players with 17 kills along with contributing 12 digs, two assists, one total block and one service ace to the overall effort.
 
Jolie Hidalgo, who turned in the third double-double of her career with 11 kills and 10 digs, and Crispin Adams (10) both reached double figures in kills. Sam Gomez chipped in seven more and had a hand in a pair of the Lady Lions' five team blocks.
 
Ariana Hebert dished out 31 assists and Calli Collins handed out 14 more. Ansley Tullis, a freshman from Slidell, Louisiana, led Southeastern with a career-high 25 digs and Lizzy Low contributed 16 more.
 
The Lady Lion defense held SFA to a .155 attack percentage, well below its .246 season average. It was also just the second time in conference play the Ladyjacks did not have at least one player record double-digit kills.

Southeastern wraps up the home portion of its schedule this week, hosting second-place Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Thursday and Incarnate Word at 11 a.m. Saturday at the University Center.

Proper social distancing techniques are required at all athletic events. Fans are asked to maintain a minimum distance of six feet from others, wear a face covering over both their nose and mouth, and wash their hands frequently. Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout Southeastern's athletic facilities.
 
While tailgating is currently prohibited, current health and safety guidelines set forth by state and local officials due to the COVID-19 pandemic allow for 25 percent capacity at athletic events. Capacity will be adjusted as state guidelines allow.
