HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana dropped a Southland Conference match to Sam Houston, 20-25, 25-22, 25-12, 18-25, 15-10, Monday at the University Center.
 
It marks the third time in as many matches Southeastern (3-3, 1-2 Southland) has fallen in five sets to the Bearkats (3-1, 3-1 Southland).
 
Sam Houston scored the first two points of the initial set before the Lady Lions rattled five straight. They never trailed in the opening set from that point forward.
 
In the second set, Southeastern scored the first four points on its way to building a 15-6 lead. From that point on, the Bearkats went on a 19-7 run to close out the set and then took the third set handily.
 
Facing defeat, the Lady Lions rebounded with their strongest offensive performance of the match, recording 12 kills in the set while posting a .235 attack percentage.
 
There were four lead changes early in the final set, but once they jumped out in front, 7-6, Sam Houston never trailed.
 
Kailin Newsome turned in her second double-double (11 kills, 13 digs) of the season, combining teaming with Karlee Wilkerson (9) and Sam Gomez (8) to lead the Lady Lions in kills. Calli Collins handed out 20 assists and Ariana Hebert dished out another 17 helpers for Southeastern.
 
Crispin Adams and Tempestt Vaughn each had a hand in three of the Lady Lions' five total blocks. Lizzy Low (17) and Ansley Tullis (13) also contributed double-digit kills for Southeastern.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Lions head out on the road for three consecutive matches, Thursday at Northwestern State, Saturday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and March 9 at Lamar.
 
Southeastern will return home for four-straight, March 11-20, against Abilene Christian, Stephen F. Austin, Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word.

Proper social distancing techniques are required at all athletic events. Fans are asked to maintain a minimum distance of six feet from others, wear a face covering over both their nose and mouth, and wash their hands frequently. Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout Southeastern's athletic facilities.
 
While tailgating is currently prohibited, current health and safety guidelines set forth by state and local officials due to the COVID-19 pandemic allow for 25 percent capacity at athletic events. Capacity will be adjusted as state guidelines allow.
