Story Links

HAMMOND, La. – Returning to volleyball action after a 12-day hiatus, Southeastern Louisiana swept past in-state rival Nicholls, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22, Tuesday in Southland Conference action at the University Center.

Southeastern (3-2, 1-1 Southland) received a dominating performance from middle blocker Crispin Adams. The sophomore from Beaumont, Texas recorded 11 kills without any attack errors in 14 total attempts for a .786 attack percentage. She also had a hand in four of the team's six total blocks.

Nicholls (0-4, 0-3 Southland) scored four of the first five points in the initial set, but a pair of service aces by Lizzy Low led to a five-point rally by the Lady Lions to gain an 8-5 lead. Later in the set, a kill by Karlee Wilkerson put Southeastern up, 16-14, and the Lady Lions slowly expanded their lead until wrapping up the set.

After jumping out to a 5-3 lead in the second set, Southeastern had to play from behind. The Lady Lions scored the final nine of the final twelve points, rallying to go up by two in the match.

The Lady Lions coasted to a big lead in the final set, 23-15, before fending off a late Nicholls rally to clinch the match in three.

Adams (11) and Kailin Newsome (10) led Southeastern with double-digit kills each. Freshman Calli Collins dished out 20 assists and Ariana Hebert added another eight for the Lady Lions. Hebert and Low each served up a pair of aces. Freshman libero Ansley Tullis led all players with 17 digs.
