SLU Heads to LSU, Texas A&M for Final Tune-Up to Conference Championships

Southeastern Continues Preparation for Indoor Conference Championships

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana Track and Field team will compete in the LSU Indoor Twilight Friday at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse and the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday at Gilliam Indoor Stadium in their final meets before the Southland Conference Indoor Championships.

Friday, Southeastern will send 31 student-athletes (17 women, 14 men) to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the LSU Twilight.

On the women's side, senior Ashley Davis headlines the group. The Watson, Louisiana native ranks second in the shot put heading into Friday with a mark of 51 feet, 2.75 inches (15.61m). Davis, the reigning Southland Conference Indoor Champion, will be in action at 3:15 p.m.

For the men, sophomore Cole Belkwell (ranked fourth in the Southland in the hammer throw) will be in the field as he looks to improve his mark of 56-1.75 (17.11m). The Kitchener, Canada native will compete at 11:30 a.m.

Southeastern will also have several competing in short sprints. Kia Coleman, Cha'Kaylin Gilbert, Destinee Jeanpiere and Taylor Mumford will run in the women's 60m qualifier at 2 p.m. Mumford, a junior from New Orleans, Louisiana, ranks 10th in the conference with a time of 7.68.

For the men, senior Devin Dixon, ranked 10th in the 60m with a time of 6.92, will run at 3:20 p.m.

Saturday, the SLU 4x400 relay team of Armonte Paulk, Donovan Storr, James Benson II and Johnathon Sawyer will be in action at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.

Following the weekend, SLU will begin their final preparations for the conference indoor championships which starts Sunday, March 1 in Birmingham, Alabama.
