HAMMOND, La. – After a valiant effort at 10
th-ranked Tennessee Thursday night, the Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team returns home Sunday night to face South Alabama at 6 p.m.
Â
SLU (1-1-2) will look to get back on the winning track after falling to Tennessee, 2-0. The road weary Lady Lions are coming off a 19-hour 1,250-mile round trip to Knoxville, Tennessee.
Â
Southeastern goalkeeper
Nadine Maher (Dublin, Ireland) and the Lady Lions' backline will look to continue their stellar play Sunday. Despite the loss to Tennessee, Maher and the defense faced 18 shots, 11 on goal and saved nine.
Â
"We saw a lot of positives on what we want to do defensively," said third-year SLU soccer head coach McBride. "We showed that we have a lot of players that are willing to defend against a Tennessee team that put as much pressure on us as any team we've faced in my three years (at SLU)."
Â
The Jags (3-1-1) are coming off their first loss of the season Thursday at Southern Miss, 1-0, despite outshooting USM, 8-5.
Â
South Alabama is led by forward Briana Morris. The senior from Hoover, Alabama, leads the Jags with six goals and had scored in all four matches prior to the loss to Southern Miss.
Â
"She is a really good player," said McBride. "She has developed into an excellent goal scorer and her movement away from the ball makes her tough to defend. She will definitely be a player to watch for."
Following Sunday's match, the Lady Lions will head back on the road next week when they face Memphis Thursday night at 7 p.m. and Little Rock Saturday at 1 p.m.
