HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana football, volleyball and cross country teams will officially open their respective 2019 seasons during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Lion football team will host No. 6 Jacksonville State, the five-time defending Ohio Valley Conference champions, on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The game will air on ESPN+ and on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU-FM (90.9), Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 1400 AM/103.7 FM). Fans can also listen live at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.
 
Thursday's game against the Gamecocks will also be Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day at Strawberry Stadium. All SLU faculty and staff can receive two complimentary tickets by presenting their Southeastern faculty/staff ID.
 
To avoid ticket lines, faculty and staff are encouraged to pick up their tickets prior to game day at the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office, which is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and from 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Friday. On game day, tickets may be picked up at the ticket booths in Friendship Circle or Strawberry Stadium.
 
The first 300 students to Thursday's SLU-JSU contest will receive a free spirit item to help cheer on the Lions. The Gamecocks will be the highest-ranked team to visit Hammond since 2013.
 
The SLU volleyball team will travel to the Jax State Invitational this weekend to open the 2019 season. On Friday, the Lady Lions face Troy at 10:30 a.m. and East Tennessee State at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's tournament finale sees Southeastern take on host Jacksonville State at 1:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
 
The Southeastern men's and women's cross country teams will also open their season this week. On Friday, the Lions and Lady Lions will head to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese Invitational.
 
The SLU soccer team (0-1) closes out its season-opening three-match home stand on Friday, hosting Jackson State for a 4 p.m. match. The Pennington Activity Center and Southeastern Athletics will provide free spirit items for the first 100 students. Students will also have an opportunity to sign up for intramural soccer at the Pennington table.
 
The Southeastern Sports Network will offer a free video stream of Friday's match. Tune in online at www.LionSports.net or the Lions' Gameday Experience app for Android or iOS devices. Fans can also watch on Southeastern's YouTube channel (/SLUathletics) with any mobile, tablet or smart TV device (e.g., Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Android TV and Roku).
