HAMMOND, La. – The back-to-back Southland Conference regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team hosts the North Oaks Health SLC Hammond Bracket, while the SLC regular season champion softball team competes in its third straight NCAA Regional and the track and field teams compete in the league's outdoor championships during this week in Athletics.
The Southeastern baseball team (31-19) is the top seed in the Southland Conference Championships and will host the Hammond Bracket this week at Pat Kenelly Diamond, starting with a 6 p.m. contest versus No. 8 seed HCU Thursday. Fourth-seeded Nicholls and No. 5 seed McNeese will be part of the double-elimination bracket, which runs through Sunday.
The SLU softball team (46-14) received the SLC's first at-large bid since 2003 and will compete in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional. Southeastern will open the regional Friday, facing Belmont at 2:30 p.m. The winner of the regional, hosted by No. 1 overall seed Alabama and rounded out by USC Upstate, will face the winner of the Baton Rouge Regional in next weekend's Super Regionals.
The Lion track and field teams will compete in the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. The league meet runs Thursday through Saturday in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Southeastern will host a Celebration of Champions Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field honoring the baseball and softball teams at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
