SLU Lands 10 on LSWA Track and Field Team

Ten Lions Reward with All-Louisiana Honors

7/6/2019 10:56:00 PM

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana track team had 10 named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Track and Field team, the LSWA announced Saturday.

Tommy Nedow (discus), Malik Burns (shot put), Grant O'Callaghan (cross country 8K) Ashley Davis (shot put), Kristian Jackson (discus), Grace Walford (hammer throw) and the men's 4x400 team of Donovan Storr, Gerald Coleman, James Benson II and Tahrike Jones were selected for SLU.

Nedow, a freshman, finished with the best mark in Louisiana with a throw of 170 feet, one inch (51.84m) in the discus. The Brockville, Canada native, set the mark at the Florida Relays March 28 in Gainesville, Florida.

Burns, a Homer, Louisiana product, also set his high mark at the Florida Relays. The sophomore recorded the third best time in the state in the shot put throwing 54-1 (16.48m).

O'Callaghan had a break out cross country season. The junior had five top ten finishes including setting the fifth best time in the state in the 8K race Sept. 22 at the Texas A&M Invitational. The Flowery Branch, Georgia native, finished the race at 24:50.

Rounding out the men's selections was the SLU 4x400 relay team. Storr, Coleman, Benson II and Jones had the third fastest time when the group ran a 3:08.16 at the Florida Relays and also placed third at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
On the women's side, Davis turned in the best mark in the state in the shot put at the conference outdoor championships. The junior threw 52-6.75 (16.03m) finishing conference runner up.
Also for the women, SLU's Kristian Jackson had the second best mark in the discus. The freshman threw 150-10 (45.75m) at the Cole-Lancon Challenge April 13 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Zachary, Louisiana native also finished fifth in the discus at the conference outdoor championships.
The Lady Lions were also represented by Walford, a junior. The Lincoln, Kansas native, secured the third best mark in the state in the hammer throw. The Lincoln High School grad threw 181-6 (55.35m) at the conference championships May 3.

"We are extremely excited to have these athletes represent Southeastern on the LSWA team," said SLU track and field head coach Corey Mistretta. "We are fully committed to improving our teams to have a stronger representation in the future."

The future is bright for Mistretta and the Lions as all 10 LSWA members for SLU will return next season.
