SLU Heads to Southern Miss for Final Tune Up Before Conference Championships

Lions Tuning Up for Conference Championships

HATTIESBURG, MISS. – With just one week remaining until the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, the Southeastern Louisiana track team will send 11 student-athletes to the Southern Miss Open Friday and Saturday at Marshall Bell Track Complex.
 
SLU's Kia Coleman, Michael Seither, Reed Callegan, Garrett Cook, Donovan Storr, Raven Barze, Jaslyn Bowman, Lindsey Hutcheson, Aareion Jackson, Destine Jeanpierre and Taylor Mumford will all see action over the weekend.
 
Seither, a senior, will compete Friday in the men's hammer throw. The Mandeville, Louisiana native, is ranked seventh in the conference going into Friday with a mark of 172 feet, one inch (52.46m) he set at the Florida Relays March 28 in Gainesville, Florida.
 
Coleman, a freshman, looks to boost her ranking in the women's triple jump Friday. The St. Francisville, Louisville product, is 15th in the conference with a mark of 37-10.75 (11.55m) set March 22 at the Southeastern/Southern Dual in Hammond, Louisiana.
 
Saturday, the SLU sprinters will take the spotlight led by Storr. The junior will run in the 200m where he is ranked 11th in the Southland (21.16). Also on the men's side, Cook (800m) and Callegan (steeplechase) will be in action Saturday.
 
On the women's side Barze (400m) and Hutcheson (steeplechase) will hit the track Saturday afternoon.
 
Bowman, a senior, will race in the women's 100m. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native will also compete in the 4x100 with Jackson, Jeanpierre and Mumford.
 
After Saturday, the Lions will begin preparation for the Southland Outdoor Championship May 3-5 in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
