Southeastern, Ragin’ Cajuns Square Off in Back-to-Back Games

Games are Tuesday in Lafayette, Wednesday in Hammond

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana faces UL Lafayette in a pair of nonconference games this week, Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Lafayette, Louisiana, and Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
Tuesday's road game against the Ragin' Cajuns (13-16) at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park will be available on ESPN+.
 
Both games can be heard in the Hammond area on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network, KSLU 90.9 FM, online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via both the Lions Gameday Experience and TuneIn Radio apps.
 
Fans can also keep up with all the Southeastern (14-13) baseball action through live statistics or by following @SLUathletics on Twitter. Streaming video ($) will be available for Wednesday's game through LionVision. Web links to audio and video broadcasts, stats, promotions and tickets are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
 
In conjunction with Wednesday's home game, the Southeastern Student Government Association is sponsoring a pregame student tailgate atop the parking garage attached to Strawberry Stadium with free food and music.
 
Wednesday's game is also a Cane's Challenge contest. If the Lions score five or more runs, all fans in attendance can redeem their game ticket or student coupon at their local participating Raising Cane's to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
 
The Lions have won eight of their last nine, dropping Sunday's series finale at Stephen F. Austin.
 
Southeastern is hitting .252 collectively, with 37 doubles, nine triples, 19 home runs and 57 stolen bases. The Lion pitching staff has worked to a combined 4.56 ERA, striking out 221 batters in 239 innings. Opponents are hitting .253 off Southeastern pitching.
 
Kyle Schimpf (.317), Trey Harrington (.304), Cody Grosse (.301) Preston Faulkner (.280) and Nick Ray (.279) pace the Southeastern offensive attack. Ray leads the squad with five home runs and 27 RBI. Grosse has swiped a Southland Conference-high 16 bases.
 
Neither team has announced starting pitchers in advance of the series.
 
Hayden Cantrelle (.327), Todd Lott (.325) and Hunter Kasuls (.303) are the Ragin' Cajuns' leading hitters. Cantrelle, Orynn Veillon and Handsome Monica own a team-high six home runs each, while Monica's 18 RBI lead the squad. Cantrelle is responsible for a team-best 18 stolen bases.
 
UL Lafayette is hitting .253 collectively, with 45 doubles, six triples, 27 home runs and 54 stolen bases. The Ragin' Cajun pitching staff has worked to a combined 4.56 ERA, striking out 222 batters in 264.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .258 off UL Lafayette pitching.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns split four games this past week, defeating Tulane in nonconference action before dropping the first two games of Sun Belt Conference series at Troy.
 
Southeastern returns to action this weekend, facing New Orleans in a three-game Southland Conference series on the New Orleans lakefront. Games in the annual Pontchartrain Bowl rivalry series are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at Maestri Field.
 
The New Orleans chapter of the Southeastern Alumni Association is sponsoring a tailgate before Sunday's game. Fans can register for the tailgate and tickets to Sunday's game at www.LionSports.net/NOLAtailgate.
 
TICKET INFORMATION
Single-game tickets can be purchased online at www.LionSports.net/Tickets or by contacting the Southeastern Athletics Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays. The ticket booth at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field opens exactly one hour before first pitch.

General Admission tickets for Lion home games are $9 for adults and $6 for children (ages 3-12). Southeastern students are admitted free with a valid university ID card.
 
CLEAR BAG POLICY
Southeastern Athletics has instituted a clear bag policy for all ticketed events, effective with the start of the 2018 fall semester. The policy mirrors safety precautions taken upon entrance to professional and collegiate sporting venues throughout the country. Fans interested in becoming active supporters of the baseball program are encouraged to join the Diamond Club. Lion baseball alums are encouraged to join the exclusive S Club, which is restricted to Southeastern athletic letter winners.
