HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will close out the home portion of its 2018-19 schedule on Saturday with a 1 p.m. Southland Conference contest versus Northwestern State in the University Center.

The game between the Lady Lions (9-17, 4-11 Southland) and the visiting Lady Demons (9-17, 4-11 Southland) will be the opener of a doubleheader Saturday in Hammond. The SLU men's basketball team closes the day versus Northwestern State in a 4 p.m. contest.

Saturday is Senior Day in the UC. Jaclyn Scholvin, Ashailee Brailey, Kyla Williams and Rhomyia Tate, as well as student athletic trainer Kelsey Felton, will be honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony at 12:35 p.m.

Both the Lady Lions and Lady Demons are trying to keep their respective postseason hopes alive. With three games left, SLU and NSU are both two games out of eighth place. The top eight teams in the standings advance to the Southland Conference Tournament, set for March 14-17 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

SLU will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak on Saturday. Last Saturday, Abilene Christian netted 12 three-point field goals on the way to an 86-66 victory over the Lady Lions. Charliee Dugas led Southeastern with a game-high 26 points, but ACU countered with a balanced effort that featured four players in double figures.

Celica Sterling (14.3 ppg), Dugas (10.3 ppg) and Scholvin (10.0 ppg) are the top scorers for the Lady Lions, who are averaging 57.7 points per game as a team. Sterling leads the team with 58 three-point field goals made, while Scholvin has dished out 3.1 assists per contest.

Southeastern comes in to Saturday's game with a minus-6.6 rebounding margin. Caitlyn Williams is the team leader with 7.0 rebounds per contest, ranking sixth in the Southland Conference.

Opponents are scoring 66.0 points and committing 17.3 turnovers per contest versus the Lady Lions. Scholvin leads the team with 44 steals, while Caitlyn Williams has blocked a team-high 20 shots.

NSU has lost three of the last four games, including a 100-91 loss at Incarnate Word on Wednesday. RaVon Nero (12.5 ppg) and Nautica Grant (10.5 ppg) are the top scorers for the Lady Demons. Victoria Miller is averaging a team-high 4.5 rebounds per contest.

Northwestern State leads the all-time series, 47-21, but Southeastern has won the last two meetings in Hammond. Back on Jan. 26, the Lady Demons outscored SLU, 19-4, in the fourth quarter on the way to a 58-47 victory. Sterling led the Lady Lions with 19 points, while Nero posted a team-high 16 points to pace NSU.

Following Saturday's contest, Southeastern will close out the regular season with a pair of in-state Southland road contests. SLU will be at New Orleans on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest. Live video, audio and stats, provided by UNO, for Wednesday's contest will be accessible on the women's basketball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
